Many customers will start trying and exploring new products online to try in-person. With options like free shipping, returns, and exchanges, who wouldn’t try something new? If a brand or business can successfully show that their products are trustworthy, have safe ingredients, and are safely produced, they’ve done a better job than someone reading a label on your store packaging.

Obtaining People's Trust Online - 4 Essential Tips

Many users are becoming more comfortable with buying new products online. With these new comfort levels come new considerations of what a user can and will buy online.

Many users will start trying and exploring new products online to try in-person. With options like free shipping, returns, and exchanges, who wouldn’t try something new? If a brand or business can successfully show that their products are trustworthy, have safe ingredients, and are safely produced, they’ve done a better job than someone reading a label on your store packaging. Someone reading a package in-store might skim over specific details that leave the user looking for more. So how can you express that your product is trustworthy online? Follow some of our tips below!

*Disclaimer*: These tips will only work if your product does everything you say it can do. Nothing more and nothing less! Implying counterfeit product details can destroy an online business.

01. Details! Details! Details!

Although it might seem self-explanatory, having plenty of product details within your product page or showcase is tremendously essential for gaining a user’s trust. These factors include written product details, an abundance of product images, and user reviews. If you’re selling a consumable product, nutrition facts and side effects are essential when listing a product on your page.

Some examples of details could be:

- How your product was made

- Product taste, smell, and usage instructions

- Images of the physical product

- Positive attributes and usage cases

02. Have Your Answers Ready!

Some customers might have specific questions about your product that you might have missed or forgot to add to the product page. This example is not a bad thing, as it allows you to connect with the user and add the content later! With that being said, you should have answers ready for the customer when they ask about your product. This means knowing the ins and outs of your product!

Many users will ask questions you’ve already answered on your product page. This is frustrating, but remember that it’s your chance to make the connection!

03. Offer Returns & Refunds

There are many positives and negatives when allowing the user to return and refund products. However, one of the biggest positives for offering returns is that the customer might be willing to take more risk to try your product if they know that they can receive a refund if the product doesn’t work out.

Do not be afraid to only offer refunds on specific products or on a case-by-case scenario. Stating that you are willing to work with customers on refunding their product is enough to gain a decent amount of trust!

04. Center Content Around A Real Person Trying & Reviewing Your Product

You might have heard of this thing called influencer marketing. Although I will not get into the pros and cons of this marketing tactic, I will mention that having someone (even if a family member or staff member) physically trying and reviewing your product can help drive trust immensely. When someone can see a person’s reaction to a product, it better understands the real-life usage or example they can expect.
